Spodnja Sorica – Culture, Trails and Hotels

A walk through Spodnja Sorica begins in front of Grohar’s House. From Sorica, marked mountain trails lead to the nearby peaks of Porezen, Črna Prst, Lajnar and Ratitovec. The village therefore offers both cultural impressions and trails through the mountain landscape.

Culture

Grohar’s House houses a memorial collection dedicated to Grohar and a gallery. The Sorica Theme Path introduces visitors to the history and legends of the village and is signposted with information boards. Sorica also has a tourism tradition spanning more than a century.

For more than twenty years, Hello fall has been Sorica’s most important cultural and ethnological event. Hello fall showcases fruit drying and pressing, wool production and sheep shearing, hunting customs, traditional dishes, local music, folk songs and historical exhibitions. Traditionally, Hello fall takes place on the second weekend of September as a two-day event in Sorica.

The cultural heritage is also diverse, including an old dialect, field names, the cultural landscape and architecture rooted in the historical settlement tradition. A church in Sorica was first mentioned in the land register in 1501. The church in Sorica has had its present Baroque appearance since the 18th century. The church’s most significant work of art is a ceiling fresco of the Last Supper by Janez Šubic from Poljane.

At the music workshops, each participant receives an instrument; at the end, everyone plays together in a percussion orchestra.

Nature

The waterfall is about a 15-minute walk from the road. The marked trail runs along the edge of the village and leads through tall trees to a bench with a broad view over the lower part of the village and the surrounding hills.

Surroundings

The Soriška Planina ski resort is located near Sorica and offers 10 km of ski slopes, five ski lifts, a ski school and ski equipment rental.
