Podlonk: Trails, History and Hotels

In Podlonk, tangible evidence of the architectural heritage and memorial heritage meets historical references to the settlement of the Selca Valley. Certain routes are also associated with the village for hiking and cycling tours.

Hiking and Cycling

The “Ratitovec Klasik” route follows a forest road towards Podlonk and reaches the edge of the settlement at the Žetlar farm. The section in question continues from the Žetlar farm to the hunting lodge in Prtovč. The Ratitovec Trail follows forest roads and paths past Podlonk and then climbs to Prtovč.

The 390-kilometre Loška kolesarska pot is divided into 13 stages and leads from Železniki via Podlonk back to Železniki. Podlonk lies on this circular route; both the starting point and the endpoint are Železniki.

Culture and History

The architectural heritage of Podlonk includes Domačija Podlonk 8. The village’s memorial heritage also includes the Spominska plošča Jožetu Mihevcu-Rudarju, the Spominska plošča relejni kurirski postaji G-1 and the Spominski kamen posvetovanju aktivistov OF.

Podlonk was part of the first wave of colonization, also known as medieval colonization, which affected the eastern part of the Selca Valley. The Soriška colonization extended across the entire area below Ratitovec, from Sorica to Podlonk. In the area from Sorica to Podlonk, the only foreign settlers who were established there were German-speaking Tyroleans from the Puster Valley.

Winter

The “Vaška smučarska tekma na Lonku” was held on Sunday, January 29, as the third traditional giant slalom. Members of ŠKTD Podlonk and other residents of Podlonk, Prtovč and Draboslovica were eligible to participate. The competition took place in two runs on the local Lonk.

As of December 1, 2022, Apartma Pr' Grogori in Podlonk had one apartment with four beds. Also as of December 1, 2022, Apartmaji pr Potokar in Podlonk had two apartments with a total of eight beds.
