Oplotnica: Manor, Nature Trail and Hotels

Culture

Also known as Žički dvorec, Oplotnica Manor was built at the beginning of the 17th century by Carthusian monks from Žička kartuzija. It is a monument to rural splendour with remarkable stucco work. Behind a wrought-iron partition, it preserves a chapel decorated with stucco. The manor can be visited during opening hours. Groups should register in advance with TIC Oplotnica.

The tourist experience “Grajska dama” provides insights into life at the manor and the history of Oplotnica through historical dress. The Črna kuhinja at St. Barbara’s Church is an ethnological museum. It can be visited by prior arrangement with TIC Oplotnica. A washhouse can also be visited in Oplotnica; washing as it was done in the past is demonstrated there.

Nature

The Oplotniški vintgar Nature Trail leads over wooden steps, small bridges and forest paths above and alongside the sparkling water. Until just over 30 years ago, the Oplotnica stream powered one of at least 30 mills and sawmills.

History

A local legend connects Oplotnica with a sunken “White City” and the pagan statues of Jupiter and Mithras that are still present. In the story, the “White City” has sunk, while the statues are described as still existing.
