Zgornja Polskava combines a multifaceted local history with easy hiking trails, sacred architecture and distinctive culinary destinations. Historical traces, trails through the Slovenjebistriško Pohorje and a family-oriented educational trail offer different ways to explore the area.

History

As early as the 12th century, a manor belonging to the Polskava knights from the Maribors family stood on the site of Zgornja Polskava. The original manor of Zgornja Polskava was completely burned down by Ottoman troops in 1532. It was renovated in the Baroque style from 1744 to 1756 according to plans by the architect Jožef Hoffer.

The sacred architecture includes the Church of the Holy Trinity in Zgornja Polskava. A bell tower stands in front of the western wall of its nave; the building also includes a rectangular nave, two square chapels of equal height and a lower, semicircular apse. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Levarje was built between 1616 and 1636, consecrated in 1696 and remodeled in 1782. The main altar and pulpit of the Church of the Holy Trinity are works by Jožef Holzinger from 1766 and 1769.

Hiking

The Polskavska planinska pot consists of several interconnected trails through the Slovenjebistriško Pohorje and leads to the destinations of Trije Kralji and Areh. All trails on the Polskavska planinska pot are classified as easy. Traditional hikes along this route take place every year in March from Zgornja Polskava toward Trije Kralji and in November from Zgornja Polskava toward Areh.

Another type of trail is the Zajčkova educational trail: it is a circular route above Zgornja Polskava to the village of Kočno and offers several interesting points for children and adults as well as beautiful views. The circular route takes about two hours. It is suitable for children from around the age of three to walk independently, as well as for parents carrying children in carriers or backpacks, but it is not suitable for strollers.

Culinary Destinations

At Miza za štiri, the focus is on a changing tasting menu. It is based mainly on vegetables, occasionally includes seafood and contains only one meat dish; wine pairings are also offered. The dining format is intimate and limited to up to 12 guests, with each table having its own private area.

Turistična kmetija Goričan offers homemade, authentic Pohorje food and drinks, as well as wine from its own vineyards. This wine is carefully tended in a 270-year-old wine cellar. The grounds of Turistična kmetija Goričan also include a children's playground.
