The castle park is one of the most important natural heritage sites in Slovenska Bistrica. Bistriški Vintgar is a narrow valley of the Bistrica stream on Pohorje, and Črno jezero is the largest lake on Pohorje.

Nature and trails
The walking trail through Bistriški Vintgar begins in Zgornja Bistrica. Šum Waterfall plunges 13 metres over eroded tonalite.
The easy trail from Trije Kralji to Črno jezero is 3.98 km long. The Bistriška pot leads from the Baroque castle through Bistriški Vintgar and onward to the Three Kings. It is equipped with information boards as well as elements for recreation and learning.
Ančnikovo gradišče is the remains of a late antique fortification from the 4th century and features information boards about its history. The Črno jezero forest educational trail has six points where visitors can stop.
Culture and history
Bistrica Castle preserves frescoes by Franz Ignaz Flurer, created between 1717 and 1721.
St Martin’s Church in Šmartno na Pohorju is a well-preserved single-nave Romanesque building with an eastern bell tower. The frescoes in the chancel are among the oldest and best-preserved monuments of mural painting from their period. The earliest frescoes are dated to around 1220–1230; the later wall and vault paintings date from the third quarter of the 13th century. The church is included in the protected register of cultural monuments of the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica.
The Marovt homestead is a characteristic and originally preserved house of a smaller Pohorje farm. A year carved into a ceiling beam indicates that it was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
The town tower of Slovenska Bistrica was built around 1300 as the southwestern tower of the town wall and was restored between 1999 and 2004.
The Church of the Holy Three Kings in Planina pod Šumikom is a three-nave church in the Gothic-Renaissance style from the beginning of the 16th century and contains three Baroque altars by Mihael Pogačnik. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Veliko Tinje has a Late Gothic fresco of Saint Christopher and incorporated stones from the Roman era.
Cycling and local specialties
The Pohorje 6A cycling route runs through the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica and begins in the centre of Slovenska Bistrica.
At Grajska tržnica, visitors can find local fruit and vegetables, homemade jams, honey, dairy products, meat products, mushrooms, bread and pastries, as well as handmade products, every Saturday from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m.
At Gora pod Lipo, wine tastings with matching snacks, as well as seasonal, locally inspired hot dishes and home cooking, are offered.
