Zgornja Ložnica: Church, Hiking Trails and Hotels

The Church of Saint Wenceslaus is the only church in Slovenia dedicated to Saint Wenceslaus; it was first mentioned in 1251.

Culture

The church consists of a nave, a polygonally ended, single-bay presbytery, chapels and a bell tower on the north wall. The church's main altar, northern altar and pulpit were created by Jožef Holzinger. A Celtic tombstone is built into the western part of a church in Zgornja Ložnica.

Traditions

The performances of the Ložniške ufarce illustrate customs using original objects and folk songs. In staged performances, the Ložniške ufarce preserve and revive folk customs, traditions and agricultural activities such as sheep shearing and harvesting; they use the local dialect in the process. For more than 14 years, ethnological evenings for members have been held in the multipurpose hall in Zgornja Ložnica.

Trails

The trail runs along the Ložnica stream. The interactive hiking trail “With a Star on the Forehead and a Stream Beneath the Feet” leads from the branch of OŠ Zgornja Ložnica to Jakčev mlin and back. The start and end points of this route are therefore clearly identified: the trail begins at the branch, reaches the Jakčev mlin mill and then leads back again.

The Stepišnik Hiking Trail was established by the Zgornja Ložnica Tourist Association. The establishment of the Stepišnik Hiking Trail was intended to revive the local cultural heritage and promote sustainable tourism through cultural heritage.

At Pri Janezu in Zgornja Ložnica 4, a dish with pelati tomatoes, ham, cheese, bacon, peppers and egg is called “Ložniška”.
