Hom – Hotels, Hiking Trails, Winegrowing and Sacred Art

The filial church of the Holy Spirit on Vihru has been documented since 1275 and has a semicircular Romanesque portal. Its sanctuary and triumphal arch are decorated with frescoes; the frescoes on the triumphal arch also extend onto the nave side. They are regarded as an important remnant of the medieval tradition, already extending into the beginning of the Renaissance, and are dated to 1500–1510. The portal form and the chronologically dated frescoes are therefore different, clearly identified features of the same church.

The Church of the Holy Spirit stands in the part of the hamlet belonging to Hom. The Jaršč archaeological site in Hom is designated as a cultural monument of local importance under the reference EŠD 7498.

The Gornje Dolenjska VTC 9 wine tourism road includes the Šentrupert–Kamnje–Hom–Nebesa–Sela–Kamnje section. In the Ukenberg area near Hom, there are vineyards with zidanice, traditional wine cottages. Hom is therefore associated both with a named wine route and with a characteristic architectural form of winegrowing. The route description lists several named places in a fixed sequence, while Ukenberg defines the connection with the vineyards and zidanice more precisely.

The mountains Kum, Velike Kozje, Dolgo Brdo and Kopitnik are located in the vicinity of Hom. Pleterje Monastery lies in the wider regional surroundings of Hom. In the hamlet of Volkova dolina, there is a spring with good water. Each of the four mountains is assigned to the vicinity of Hom; Pleterje is located separately in the wider regional surroundings, while Volkova dolina identifies a distinct hamlet with a spring.

The Steklasova hiking route leads to Hom and then climbs to its highest point, Nebesa, which is 602 m high. It can be hiked in both directions in two sections. The G10 mountain-bike route passes through Hom near Nebesa. A launch site for hang-gliders and paragliders is located on the southern part of Nebesa. The route description thus connects Hom and Nebesa, with Nebesa identified as the subsequent highest point of the hiking route. The hiking route and the mountain-bike route use Hom and the area near Nebesa, respectively, as named route references, without this implying that they share the same route.
