Borsh lies in a narrow depression above the seashore. The place is considered a green coastal area with an expansive beach and sea; Borsh Beach is regarded as the longest beach in the region. The Borsh stream flows through the coastal depression and is also called Buronja e Malit. Thus, coastal landscape, a watercourse and historic fortifications meet in this place.
Coast and Landscape
The landscape of Borsh includes the Stenoi-Treppe quarter. It is a quarter of Borsh with houses scattered among greenery and areas rich in water. A path through olive groves leads to Borsh Beach.
Badhrës Castle dominated the surrounding gentle hills as well as the beaches of Borsh and Piqeras. The Badhrës fortification lies below the main road at the exit from Borsh, on a hill approximately 250 metres above sea level.
Culture and History
Several fortifications give Borsh and its immediate surroundings a long historical depth. Borsh Castle dates from the 4th century BC and stands on a cliff above Borsh. The castle at Badhrës is attributed to the Late Bronze Age. Thus, two different historical dates stand side by side for this place: the Late Bronze Age classification of Badhrës and the dating of Borsh Castle to the 4th century BC.
Sopot Castle also dates back a long way. The earliest fortification phase of Sopot Castle dates to the Late Bronze Age. In the 4th to 3rd century BC, the fortification of Sopot developed into an important urban centre. The path to Sopot Castle is difficult and can only be traversed on foot.
Hiking
The official hiking guide lists the Borsh–Piqeras–Bunec Beach–Lukovë route. On this route, the main path continues towards Bunec Beach as a wide, level, stony unpaved track shaded by olive trees.
