Izačić: Hotel, Old Town History and Plješevica

Izačić-gradina is among the archaeological remains in the vicinity of Bihać. Alongside the surviving remains of the old town, the name thus represents another historical reference associated with the place. The hill on the western edge of the Bihać Valley, its affiliation with the Bihać Kapetanija and the town walls renewed after 1592 mark different stages in the history of Izačić.

The “Izačić” memorial room is located next to the border crossing of the same name on the road towards the centre of Bihać. It contains a private collection assembled over many years by a former employee of the former “Željava” military complex. Guided tours of the memorial room are offered for a symbolic fee.

The Bihać city programme for 2018 included the event “Izačiću, ponosan mi budi” on 14 August, organised by the Izačić local community. The 34th edition of the event was also organised by the Izačić local community. It preserves the culture of remembrance of the defenders of this area and the city of Bihać and honours all the martyrs of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The programme of “Izačiću, ponosan mi budi” included the recitation of a Tevhid for the martyrs at the mosque in Izačić, as well as a visit to the memorial room.

Another traditional event is the Štraparijada in Izačić. During this event, workhorses pull tree trunks. The horses compete in light, medium and heavy categories; they pull the heavy logs individually or in pairs.

In the surrounding area, above Bihać and Izačić, the Plješevica mountain range offers forests, hiking trails and wide views of the city and the Krajina. Thus, in addition to the historic sites, the area also includes a landscape with forests, trails and distant views.

At the Izačić border crossing, waiting times for passenger vehicles do not exceed 30 minutes.
