Risovac: Springs, Ponor Zones and the Landscape of the Grmeč Mountains

Risovac lies at the northwesternmost end of Petrovačko Polje in the Grmeč Mountains. Approximately 100 springs are scattered throughout Risovac. The springs form larger flowing bodies of water known as “ponornice,” which flow from west to east or southeast. Risovac is considered the third ponor zone of Petrovačko Polje.

Yellow gentian (Gentiana lutea) is also listed as a species occurring in the Risovac–Bosanska Krupa area. The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is likewise listed as a species occurring in this area.

Geography

Two caves lie beneath the distinctive rock formation Risovačka greda, an extension of the Grmeč Mountains. The cave in the Vodice area lies at an elevation of 600 metres and was once a doline. The second cave serves as a ponor year-round and collects water even during the driest periods.

Risovac’s location is also defined by the road between Bosanski Petrovac and Bosanska Krupa: Risovac lies away from this road.

History and Culture

Čatrnje are concrete-built cisterns that remain as landmarks among Risovac’s abandoned houses. Risovac has a settlement history reaching back to the time of the Roman Empire. The residents who remain in Risovac maintain historical traditions of agriculture and forestry.

Pay attention to whether individual costs are already included in the total price or listed separately. Read the booking and cancellation terms in full before making your decision. Several offers can be clearly compared side by side using the same fields. When reviewing the included services, it is worth checking which items are explicitly mentioned and which price components appear separately. The conditions for changes or cancellations should also be clearly worded. Only then compare the offers based on this information, so that differences in costs and conditions remain clearly identifiable. For occupancy, it is important to know whether the stated number applies to the entire unit or to individual rooms; also check whether additional costs are subject to specific conditions. The individual fields should be traceable in the same way across all the offers being compared.
