Discover Doboj: Hotel, Gradina Fortress and Culture

Doboj Fortress, locally also known as “Gradina,” is considered the city’s most famous tourist attraction. Its stone walls were begun in the 13th century. At the same time, the fortress is a cultural and historical monument of great importance. The Selimija Mosque, also known as the Upper Mosque, stands in its immediate vicinity. It was the first mosque in Doboj and was built in 1522 by Sultan Selim II.

Culture

Other distinctive religious buildings add to Doboj’s cultural landscape. Construction of the Memorial Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at the northern entrance to the city began in 1931. The church is designed in the Serbian-Byzantine style and has a cruciform layout. The Beth Shalom Synagogue was consecrated in November 2003 after a family house built in 1922 had been converted. The older Jewish history is also commemorated by the fact that the first Jewish house with a synagogue in Doboj was built in 1874. Its entrance doors now stand as a memorial in the courtyard of the newly built Beth Shalom Synagogue.

The Doboj Centre for Culture and Education offers a cinema hall, a gallery and classrooms in which Doboj’s amateur cultural life flourishes. Over the course of the year, the centre organizes the Teatar Fest, the Art Salon, a concert on the night of Bogojavljenje, as well as exhibitions and literary evenings. The permanent exhibition of the Doboj Museum is divided into departments of archaeology, history, ethnology and natural history.

The Džungla swimming pools have changing areas and showers in a bathing facility measuring around 500 square metres. The grounds include four pools: an Olympic-size pool, a learner pool with slides and diving boards, a leisure pool with water attractions and a whirlpool, and a children’s pool with slides.

In the surrounding area, the educational and walking trail “Jošava” connects the “Preslica” Sports and Recreation Centre with Goransko Lake. The trail is 1,800 metres long and ranges from easy to moderately difficult. The “Preslica” Sports and Recreation Centre also has several barbecue areas for visitors on day trips.

Goransko Lake is located in the surrounding area, around 7 kilometres from Doboj, at the foot of the Ozren Mountains. It lies in a heavily wooded setting and has a prepared beach as well as other tourist infrastructure. Hiking, paragliding and mountain biking are mentioned as possible activities in connection with Ozren.

The Doboj fishing region offers various fishing techniques, including float, spinning and bottom fishing. In the area of the City of Doboj, sport fishing is practised in the courses of the Bosna, Usora, Spreča and Rudanka rivers, as well as in other smaller waterways. In this fishing region, the Bosna has a calm flow, and its banks are easily accessible to sport anglers.
