Ljubina: Zelengora Lakes, Vrbnica and Trails

The glacial lakes of Zelengora lie at elevations between 1,380 and 1,650 meters above sea level. The landscape includes forests, green meadows, mountain pastures, springs and streams. Swimming is possible in some of the lakes of Zelengora. The Vrbnica stream is considered a habitat for indigenous trout and a fishing area.

Hiking is possible on Zelengora, as is cycling on established and marked trails. A Via Dinarica MTB route designated BH 01 VD+ Zelengora crosses Ljubin Grob Pass and descends to Bijelo and Crno Lakes. This route passes nine lakes of Zelengora in one day; one stage covers 70 kilometers and more than 2,000 meters of elevation gain. The mountain trail from Orlovačko Lake to Vrbnica is the most demanding section of this route.

The excursion to Crno and Bijelo Lakes takes 7–8 hours and includes 4–5 hours of hiking. The offerings of Sutjeska National Park also include horseback riding excursions with a visit to the village of Vrbnica. For beginners and family tours, the national park recommends riding at the equestrian arena in Vrbnica. Staff from Sutjeska National Park take riders to Vrbnica in park vehicles, where the horses are located.

Vrbnica can be reached via a 13-kilometer gravel road. Two kilometers before Vrbnica, a road branches off toward the stream and the village of Ljubina. After arriving in Vrbnica, the route gradually descends toward Tjentište. Traveling from Vrbnica to Srijemušna Luka for approximately 7.5 kilometers requires an off-road vehicle exclusively.

The katuns of Zelengora are seasonal shepherd settlements associated with livestock farming and the production of traditional dairy products. Every year in Vrbnica, a gathering takes place on Elijah's Day during the blueberry harvest. In June, the mountaineering club Pašina Valley organizes a traditional daffodil-picking event in the surrounding area.

Pantelijevdan is a shared feast day for the residents of Vrbnica and Pašina Poljana, followed by a folk festival. The small Church of Saint Panteleimon in Vrbnica is also a monument. On May 11, 1945, a military order concerned the Ljubina–Vrbnica–Tjentište sector in connection with the battles of the Second World War.
