Culture and History
The Napredak Cultural Center in Kereka was founded on January 1, 1884; the Napredak-1884 Cultural Center is active there.
The “Blagoveshtenie” Church may only be viewable from its façade if those responsible for the church do not grant access.
Kereka has an architectural heritage consisting of old, large, and well-preserved houses. The birthplace of Bulgarian writer Kamen Kalchev has also been preserved there.
Kereka is home to Bulgaria’s oldest monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius; it was created in 1885. Another monument commemorates two local participants in the 1876 fighting at Dryanovo Monastery and was unveiled in 1976. The local celebration is held on May 11.
Cycling
The 2021 Kereka Cup included a 23.5-kilometer road cycling route that ran from Kereka via Pushevo and Shemshevo back to Kereka.
The cycling category of the 2021 Kereka Cup used a 24-kilometer Kereka–Pushevo–Shemshevo–Kereka route with an ascent on a marked forest road.
The cycling route from Veliko Tarnovo to Dryanovo Monastery also passes through Kereka and is described as a relaxed one-day tour for beginners, families with children, and people with disabilities.
Geographical Location
The area around Dryanovo is associated with Balkan Mountain landscapes and characteristic Balkan houses; some of these houses are more than 200 years old.
