Culture and landscape

Hotalich is located 4 km northwest of Sevlievo on the western edge of the Sevlievo Mountains, where the Rositsa River enters a picturesque gorge. The site is an immovable cultural monument of national importance and was added to Bulgaria’s list of the 100 national tourist sites in 2024. Hotalich is open to visitors as an open-air museum; the archaeological complex includes four Christian churches. The excavated medieval settlement comprises nearly 90 residential and agricultural buildings.

The clock tower of Sevlievo is the oldest surviving public building in the town and an architectural cultural monument. The Hadjistoyanovo School was one of the first secular schools in Bulgaria and now houses the permanent exhibitions “Archaeology” and “Sevlievo during the National Revival”. The Dandolovi Houses display traditional costumes from the Sevlievo area, urban furnishings, and the clothing of wealthy Sevlievo families.

Landscape and cycling

Routes south of Sevlievo can reach the main ridge of the Balkan Mountains after crossing parts of the Fore-Balkan. A mountain bike route can start in Sevlievo and pass through the surrounding villages; optional detours lead to Mari Skok Waterfall and to a viewpoint in the direction of the Alexander Stamboliyski Reservoir.

The Sevlievo Pumpkin Festival includes culinary competitions as well as competitions for pumpkin-based culinary creations.

The Sevlievo Tourist Information Centre is located near the central square and provides information about sights, restaurants, accommodation, transport, and current events. The Historical Museum in Sevlievo has a collection of more than 50,000 objects, including documents, photographs, archaeological finds, and works of art.
