Polkovnik Serafimovo: Hotels and Accommodation
Polkovnik Serafimovo lies in a valley about 3 km from the Arda River, at an average elevation of 900 metres. The settlement consists of 16 closely situated, scattered hamlets. It is described as being 7 km from Smolyan and 20 km from Pamporovo.
Landscape
The Alamushnitsa stream flows through the village territory towards the Arda. Along the courses of the local streams, there are small waterfalls and pools. In the surrounding area, local residents have built numerous fountains supplying spring water.
History and Culture
According to local tradition, the first settlers came from Davidkovo more than 450 years ago. The settlement was formerly known as Osikovo, Yabalkovo and Alamidere, and was renamed Polkovnik Serafimovo in 1934 in honour of Colonel Vladimir Serafimov.
The Vavedenie Bogorodichno Church was built in 1836 and is designated as an artistic cultural monument. The village festival is Petrovden, held on 29 June. The National Folklore Competition “With the Songs of Georgi Chilingirov” is also scheduled to take place in Polkovnik Serafimovo in the last week of June 2026.
Surroundings
In the area around the village, the 1912 battle in the Smolyan region is remembered as the “Rhodope Shipka”. The summit monument and ossuary at Srednogorets nearby commemorates the soldiers of the 21st Srednogorski Regiment who died in the battles of 1912; these battles are also referred to locally as the “Rhodope Shipka”. The monument can be reached from Smolyan via the road towards Rudozem and Polkovnik Serafimovo.
The village area is recognised as a high-ranking hunting ground in Bulgaria and Europe.
