Momchilovtsi: Hotels and Accommodation

Momchilovtsi combines nature, local history and vibrant Rhodope traditions. The Tourist Information Center offers mountain and extreme sports as well as hiking routes.

Culture and Tradition

The local tourist offering includes Rhodope evenings with a folklore programme. Visitors can prepare Rhodope specialities themselves; the programme also introduces them to woodcarving, sewing Rhodope slippers and weaving. In addition, lessons in Bulgarian folk songs and dances are available.

Characteristic folklore, traditions, crafts and Christian religious customs have been preserved in Momchilovtsi. The Church of Saints Constantine and Helena in Momchilovtsi was built in 1836. The local history museum contains more than 3,000 exhibits and has departments dedicated to archaeology, the Bulgarian National Revival and ethnography. The village's small art gallery presents works by classical and contemporary Bulgarian artists.

History

The DANO Centre is located in the reconstructed former school of Momchilovtsi. It draws attention to the cultural, historical and natural features of the Rhodopes.

Nature

The “Tornal e Tyodyu” eco-trail leads through local areas and the vegetation surrounding the settlement. It includes two rock formations and two chapels, as well as the Radichoska spring, which was built in 1922.

The chapels around Momchilovtsi are arranged along three separate hiking trails. Ayazmoto lies hidden in a pine forest south of St. Ilia Peak.
