Culture
The Chitalishte Iskra-1957 serves as Vievo’s cultural centre. As a community cultural centre, it organises clubs, courses, celebrations, concerts and youth activities; creates and preserves museum collections; and develops library and amateur arts activities. The chitalishte is home to men’s, women’s and children’s singing groups that take part in local, regional and national festivals and gatherings.
The building houses an ethnographic collection with traditional costumes and household objects, as well as the photo exhibition “Vievo—past, present and future”. The photo collection of the Vievo Chitalishte includes a dedicated section on the Vievska Folklore Group. The exhibition “Memories in Photos” displays photographs from 1940 to the present day.
Vievo was the birthplace of Emil Uzunski, the founder and leader of the Vievska Folklore Group. The Vievska Folklore Group preserves and promotes Rhodope singing. The Vievtsi folklore ensemble at the Vievo Chitalishte has 25 members. Vievo’s annual village festival takes place on the last Saturday in May.
The library provides free access to books and information. Its offerings also include children’s activities, literary readings, creative games, clubs and initiatives focused on local memory.
Geographical Location
Haidushki Polyani is located near Vievo, 24 km from Vievo. The area is described as having excellent conditions for recreation and tourism.
The National Astronomical Observatory near Rozhen is located close to Vievo, 22 km away, and is described as the largest astronomical observatory in the Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
