Culture
The parish church of St Sylvester in Kanfanar dates from the 17th century. The pulpit in the church originally stood in the Basilica of St Sophia in Dvigrad.
History
Near Kanfanar, the preserved remains of Dvigrad are enclosed by two rings of city walls, a city gate and three defensive towers. Also near Kanfanar is the Church of St Agatha, an early Romanesque building with murals dating back to the second half of the 11th century. Dvigrad was first mentioned in 879 near Kanfanar.
Near Kanfanar, the Church of St Sophia stands on the central and highest plateau of Dvigrad, on the main square. The church's present appearance most likely dates from the 13th century. Near Kanfanar, Kašteljir is a prehistoric archaeological site below a former hillfort settlement.
Paths and Landscape
The Štrika-Ferata cycle and walking path follows the former Kanfanar–Rovinj railway branch line. The route passes three bridges, four railway stations and 14 railway keeper's houses. The “Journey to Central Istria” path begins and ends in the centre of the municipality of Kanfanar.
Near Kanfanar there is also a climbing crag with semi-caves and views of medieval Dvigrad as well as the area of Limska draga.
Family
Park istarskog vola is a themed visitor complex in Kanfanar dedicated to the history of the Istrian ox. It includes multimedia elements, children's games and information boards about the Istrian ox. The park also shows the growth stages of Istrian cattle in natural size.
Cuisine
Fužijada is a gastro show in Kanfanar centred around fuži, an Istrian pasta. At Fužijada, women from Kanfanar demonstrate the traditional handmade production of fuži; visitors can learn about the production process.
Kanfanar's programme includes the Fužijada and Jakovlja festivals, a presentation of young olive oil, the Dan limskih oštriga event, a planned shop for local products and a themed path to the Kašteljir picnic area.
