Marići: Hotels and Accommodation

The official 32.9 km-long “Journey to Central Istria” cycling route runs through Marići. It begins and ends in Kanfanar and passes through Marići, Maružini, Matohanci, Sošići and the Limska Draga valley. Those wishing to book a hotel in Marići can continue their accommodation search afterwards.

Landscape and Trails

The official Kumbašeja Kids Trail also runs through Marići. It is classified as easy, is suitable for trekking bikes, electric bikes and mountain bikes, and takes approximately two hours including stops.

In the wider surrounding region, the Journey-to-Central-Istria Trail provides access to landscaped woodland areas, a Limska Draga viewpoint, the valley itself, caves and ponds. The cycling route running through Marići also passes between vineyards, olive groves and the fertile fields of Central Istria.

Nature

The Kumbašeja route includes the Kumbašeja Pit, one of three described speleological pits. The Kumbašeja Pit has the largest crater in Istria. It is associated with the Romualdo ground beetle, described as an endemic subspecies in the area of Istria and Kvarner.

Culture and Cuisine

At Easter, Marići hosts a traditional gathering featuring an egg-throwing competition and a social programme for residents and visitors. In the game of pičenje jaja, participants throw from a distance of five metres at a slate slab and use coins in later rounds.

The Easter programme includes špaleta, asparagus and other seasonal homemade dishes. OPG Marić produces traditional Istrian cured meat products, including sausages, ombolo, pancetta and špaleta. OPG Marić in Marići also produces honey and propolis and collects pollen.

Marići has facilities for bocce, tennis, beach volleyball, small-sided football and handball.
