Vela Traba: Hotels and Accommodation

Nature

Vela Traba is a Natura 2000 site under the Habitats Directive and protects seven designated species, including six invertebrates and the Four-lined Snake (Elaphe quatuorlineata).

The protected area for the conservation of species and habitat types HR2001322 Vela Traba covers 540.08 hectares; an area of 540.0839 hectares is also stated for this site. In the Mediterranean biogeographical region, Vela Traba is one of only two sites of particular importance for the insect species Eriogaster catax.

The area of the ecological network HR2001322 Vela Traba is located in the settlements of Vela Traba and Beram, and partly in Brajkovići. Seven target species are listed in the Vela Traba ecological network area: Euphydryas aurinia, Eriogaster catax, Euplagia quadripunctaria, Lucanus cervus, Cerambyx cerdo, Elaphe quatuorlineata and Morimus asper funereus. The surroundings of the Vela Traba site include a wooded canyon of the Draga stream, as well as garigue, maquis, meadows, agricultural land, karst sinkholes and small villages.

In nearby Beram, the Church of Sv. Marija na Škriljinah preserves well-preserved late Gothic frescoes by the master Vincent of Kastav. The frescoes depicting the Dance of Death in the Church of Sv. Marija na Škriljinah near Beram were rediscovered and restored in 1913.
