Culture and History

The parish church of St. Michael in Zamask contains a Glagolitic inscription from 1576. An Austrian-Venetian border once ran through the settlement.

Landscape and Surroundings

Zamask offers views towards Motovun, Lake Butoniga, and central Istria. On clear days, the view can extend as far as the Slovenian Alps and the sea of western Istria.

Mount Gruja Vrh is located in the immediate vicinity of Zamask. The surrounding area is home to the mountains Kobiljak, Stari Draguć, and Ravnica. The churches of Sveti Stjepan, St. Mary on Škriljinah, and Svi Sveti are also located in the surrounding area.

West of Zamask, in the direction of Kaldir, lies the Romanesque-Gothic Church of St. Mary Magdalene. It preserves wall paintings dating from around 1400, including the Maiestas Domini and depictions of apostles, as well as Glagolitic graffiti bearing the years 1416 and 1436.
