Ježenj: Hotels and accommodations

Ježenj offers a particularly direct connection to the history of Istria: since 2004, the permanent exhibition “Bishop Dr. Juraj Dobrila – Life and Work” has been housed on the ground floor of the birthplace of Bishop and Croatian national revivalist Dr. Juraj Dobrila (1812–1882) in Veli Ježenj. Culture and history

Veli Ježenj is listed as a rural settlement complex forming part of the cultural heritage. The birthplace of Juraj Dobrila in Veli Ježenj can be visited by prior arrangement. The “Dobrilini dani” event has been held in Ježenj, the birthplace of Juraj Dobrila, for a decade; each year is marked by a special event.

The earliest known reference to the Ježenj area also points to the long history of the settlement: more precisely, it refers to Ježenjski brig, dates from 1478, and reads “monte Iesen”. Southeast of Ježenj, in the Pazin Plain, lies the parish church of St. Lucia, built in the 16th century.

Nature and landscape

Ježenj is situated in a karst landscape with numerous sinkholes, fertile plots of land, and low woodland. The settlement lies above the Limska draga valley. Veli Ježenj forms the central part of the Ježenj settlement; Mali Ježenj lies around 500 metres northwest of it.

Cycling

The XC Ježenj mountain bike event took place in Veli Ježenj and was included in the 2025/26 MTB-ZLIK calendar. The XC Ježenj mountain bike route is designed as a loop approximately 4,700 metres long. It runs along forest roads and forest trails and contains only a small amount of asphalt, used solely where it could not be avoided.

Local life

The family farm OPG Križmanić at Veli Ježenj 17 continues a long agricultural tradition and has operated as an independent family farm since 2003. Its products include garlic, lettuce, radicchio, onions, potatoes, spinach, tomatoes, strawberries, fruit spreads, and homemade eggs.
