Povile: Hotels and accommodations

The harbor of Povile is open to local public transport. There is both an old and a new landing site for boats. There is also a pine-shaded camping area directly by the sea.

Trails and landscape

The Od izvora do Frankopana route begins in Povile. A circular route on this trail is approximately 8 kilometers long. Important points include the Gradina viewpoint, the Old Town of Ledenice, and Žrnovnica.

The Waves Trail also begins in Povile and is 30 kilometers long. It follows the coast along existing trails, promenades, and local roads. Ledenice Fort is a prominent landmark on the Cliff Trail.

Culture and history

A tunera is a tall wooden coastal observation ladder from which fishermen looked out for tuna. Historically, two tunera fish-observation structures existed in Povile. Two observation structures at Cape Sveta Magdalena and Puntica Beach preserve the memory of Povile’s fishing heritage.

St Magdalene Church stands by the sea at the entrance to Povile and is the settlement’s parish church. It was most likely built in the 16th century and has been restored.
