Gata: Hotels and Accommodation

Hiking

The Putem naših starih hiking route in Gata is 8.36 kilometres long, takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, and is classified as moderate. It begins at the parish church of St. Cyprian in Gata, which in its present form was built around 1750 on the foundations of an early Christian basilica dating from the 6th century. The start and end of the route are in Gata; it reaches an elevation of 458 metres and combines paved and gravel surfaces. At kilometre 2.27, it reaches the Church of St. John the Baptist, documented in the 1711 visitation of Archbishop Cupilli. The route also reaches the Church of St. George in Gradac, located in Gata, and runs with views towards the gorge. The Poljica Museum is located at the starting point of the route.

Culture and History

The Poljica Museum was opened in 1974 in an old brotherhood house near the parish residence and contains a mosaic measuring 10.30 × 1.80 metres by the painter Joko Knežević. The Church of St. Roch in Gata has a bell dated 1518 and stands below the Mosor rocks next to the abandoned hamlet of Miloša. The Church of St. George in Gradac was built in its present form in 1933 on the site of a medieval church.

Practical Information

In the immediate vicinity of Gata is the Gata–Omiš viewpoint, with parking available nearby and no admission fee; however, the access road has no footpath.
