Dolní Hbity: Church, Landscape and Hiking Trails

Historical Traces in Dolní Hbity

The historical orientation of Dolní Hbity begins with a specific date: the first written mention of Dolní Hbity dates from 19 May 1325. Dolní Hbity probably originated in the 12th century on the so-called Salt Route, which led from present-day Solenice via Kamýcký hrad–Vrš to Prague. Its presumed origins along this route connect the history of the village with an early transport route. For travel planning, the history of the village can thus be placed chronologically between the presumed 12th century and 19 May 1325.

Church and Church Construction

The church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1998. The present Church of Saint John the Baptist was built between 1868 and 1872 on the site of a demolished, presumably early Gothic church. The former church is presumed to date from the second half of the 13th century and is documented in 1352. The present building and its predecessor therefore represent two clearly separate historical periods. The construction period from 1868 to 1872 thus concerns the present church, while the year 1352 belongs to its predecessor.

Rural Architecture and the Municipality's Territory

The territory of the municipality of Dolní Hbity has a high proportion of forests and permanent grassland. Several traditional wooden log buildings have been preserved in Luhy. Káciň is distinguished by rural architecture that remains undisturbed to this day. Both localities add specific examples of historic village structures to the landscape. Forests, permanent grassland and historic architectural forms are therefore among the specifically named landscape and village features of Dolní Hbity.

Hiking Trails and a Longer Route

Three marked hiking trails run through the territory of the municipality of Dolní Hbity. A 6.7 km-long hiking route leads from the Dolní Hbity–Nepřejov crossroads via Horní Líšnice and Dolní Líšnice to Maková hora. The approximate duration given for this route is 2 hours 15 minutes. This approximate duration clearly defines this section of the route for day planning. The route therefore specifies a clear starting point at the Dolní Hbity–Nepřejov crossroads, with Maková hora as its destination.

Events by Bicycle and on Foot

The cycling event Dolnohbitský Tvrďák took place in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The hiking event Pochod Dolnohbitskem napříč also took place in Dolní Hbity on 28 September 2023; Pochod Dolnohbitskem napříč was described as its fourth edition. The two event names represent different ways of getting around: Dolnohbitský Tvrďák is associated with cycling, while Pochod Dolnohbitskem napříč is associated with hiking. The cycling event and the dated hiking event therefore also differ in the way their timing is stated.
