Vrbno: Hotels and accommodations

Vrbno was first mentioned in writing in 1241 and is designated as a protected village heritage zone.

History and village character

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Vrbno was originally a Romanesque building from the 12th century and was later remodeled in the Gothic and Baroque styles. Within its grounds is a row cemetery that had already served, at least partially, as a church cemetery.

The historic village character also includes the protected farmhouse No. 21. It comprises a residential building, a barn or granary, a stable, a carriage house, an enclosing wall, and the associated land. The property is located southeast of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on the edge of Vrbno’s historic center and near a former course of the Vltava.

In the past, Vrbno was divided: one part belonged to the Mělník estate, while another belonged to the Vladik family of Mléček and later to the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star.

Nature and water landscape

The Vrbenské tůně pools are located on Vrbno’s southern and southeastern edges along the left bank of the river. They include part of an old branch of the Vltava and a system of pools, covering 43.66 hectares. The Vrbenské tůně form a tranquil natural area and fishing grounds and provide a refuge for birds and amphibians.

Cycling routes and educational trail

The Vrbno–Hořín section belongs to Cycling Route 7. The Vrbno–Mělník–Horní Počaply cycling route runs along asphalt and paved paths. Hořín is connected to the Elbe Cycle Route (Labská stezka) and is presented as a destination for walking and cycling tours.

The Vrbno–Zelčín educational trail is located near ZOOPARK Zelčín, is 3.5 km long, and has 13 stations.
