Lužec nad Vltavou combines sacred architectural heritage with practical routes along and across the Vltava. The town’s distinctive features range from a protected church complex and historic organ-building craftsmanship to revitalized green spaces and cross-border cycling connections.
Culture and Architecture
The protected complex of the Church of St. Giles in Lužec nad Vltavou comprises the church, the mortuary chapel, and the designated plots of land. The church is a single-nave Baroque building. Its presbytery contains a Rococo fresco depicting an illusionistic dome.
The mortuary chapel is a round central building with three curved chapel projections. It has a dome-shaped roof covered with roof tiles and a hexagonal brick bell tower.
Among its distinctive furnishings are the Lužec organ. The organ has been preserved in near-original condition and was built in 1783 by Prague organ builder Anton Reiss. It has two manuals and twelve stops; to this day, it has retained its original tonal character.
Nature and the Vltava
The Na Pastvách woodland park by the pond was revitalized in 2022. This created a pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
The footbridge and cycle bridge over the Vltava, opened in 2021, improves access to the opposite riverbank at Bukol; previously, there was only a ferry connection there. When raised, the Lužec railway bridge provides shipping with a clearance of 7.0 metres.
Cycling Connections
The EuroVelo 7 long-distance cycle route passes through Lužec nad Vltavou. The footbridge and cycle bridge between Lužec nad Vltavou and Bukol carries this long-distance cycle route, which runs from north to south, across the river; EuroVelo 7 runs from Sweden to Sicily. The Lužec–Zelčín cycle path also passes through Lužec nad Vltavou.
