Medonosy: Hotels and Accommodation

Medonosy lies in a deep valley of the Liběchovka River, which cuts between the hills of the Ralská pahorkatina, in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. Nature, preserved rural architecture, and individual historic buildings shape the appearance of the village.

Nature and Landscape

More than one hundred plant species in the vicinity of Medonosy are endangered and require protection. The ecosystem is home to rare species of insects, birds, and aquatic animals.

Mountain and submontane plants, predominantly moisture-loving species, grow in the shady gorges of Medonosy. Drought- and heat-loving plants grow on the sunlit uplands.

Village Appearance and Architectural History

Fifty cottages in Medonosy have preserved their original appearance and period-specific architectural layouts almost unchanged. The houses are predominantly two-storey log or half-timbered buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

A rural house in Medonosy is a predominantly two-storey log building with a two-part floor plan, an asymmetrical gable roof, a recessed porch, a supporting structure on the ground floor, and a short farm wing with a half-timbered chamber on the upper floor; its core dates from the late 18th century.

In Medonosy, 31 buildings are listed nationwide as protected cultural monuments. The Baroque Church of St James dates from 1712 and stands on Gothic foundations; since 1966, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

A sandstone statue of Saint Ludmila from the mid-19th century stands at the entrance to Medonosy from the direction of Mělník. The water mill in Medonosy, house no. 1, has milling equipment dated to 1788. The niche chapel has been reconstructed and is maintained.

Spring and Hiking Trail

The Knížecí studánka spring in Medonosy is covered by a Neoclassical umbrella-shaped structure and is a plentiful spring with good drinking water. In section P3 – Medonosy, most of the bunkers are located directly on or in the immediate vicinity of a green-marked hiking trail.
