Hrubý Jeseník: Hotels and accommodations

In the Elbe Lowland stands the Romanka observation tower, an unusual lookout tower in the municipality of Hrubý Jeseník. It combines the function of a telecommunications tower with that of a public observation tower and was opened on March 28, 2003.

Nature and trails

The Romanka observation platform is located about 26 meters above the ground and can be reached via 116 steps. From Hrubý Jeseník, Romanka can be reached on foot via short dirt tracks. By car, it is possible to drive almost all the way to the tower; parking is available.

U Borku (Záhornice u Městce Králové) is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Hrubý Jeseník. Kamenec is also a mountain in this wider regional area. Šibinka (Loučeň) is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Hrubý Jeseník, as is Kuncberk (Křinec).

History and culture

Hrubý Jeseník is one of the oldest municipalities in the Nymburk area and was first mentioned in writing in 1088. The settlement originally consisted of Jeseník and Jeseníček; Jeseníček later became part of Oskořínek.

The history of the church in Hrubý Jeseník, dedicated to Saint Wenceslas, dates back to the mid-14th century. Its present form dates from 1769.

The ensemble of sculptures and a chapel along the Stations of the Cross in Hrubý Jeseník is among the cultural monuments of the Czech Republic.
