Knezeves: Hotels and Accommodation
The spotting platform near Kněževes is a place for plane spotting. It can be reached on foot via an unpaved gravel path from the adjacent Na Staré silnici road. There is parking nearby, about 100 meters from the platform; Kněževes can also be reached by bus.
Geographical Location
Kněževes is located above the Únětický potok stream on the Prague Plateau, about 10 km from Prague and directly on the boundary of the grounds of Prague-Ruzyně International Airport. The Únětický potok originates in Kněževes u Prahy.
Culture and History
The Baroque gate at Na Slovance belongs to a late Baroque farmstead at house no. 36. It features a split triangular gable and a half-length figure of Saint John of Nepomuk. The bell tower at Na Slovance is late Baroque and dates from 1802. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dates approximately from the second half of the 18th century.
Archaeological finds from the Neolithic period, the ÚnÄ›tice culture, and the 8th to 9th centuries have been documented in Kněževes. The fortress of Kněževes was first mentioned in 1383 and no longer existed by 1575. The annual Svatováclavské posvÃcenà festival complements the historical monuments of Kněževes.
The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas was built in 1736 with funds from the Jesuit seminary of Saint Wenceslas in Prague. It was enlarged and restored in 1882, at which time it received its present pseudo-Romanesque appearance. During restoration in 2014, wall paintings from 1904 were discovered and restored.
