Únětice lies northwest of Prague in the valley of the Únětický potok stream. Its cadastral area directly borders Prague’s cadastral area and the Tiché údolí protected area.

History and Architecture

The first written mention of Únětice as a village with a church dates back to 1125. After 1770, a new church, a rectory and a farm building were constructed. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was rebuilt and consecrated on 17 August 1783.

The area around the village also reflects its ancient history: the protected archaeological burial ground after which the Únětice culture of the Early Bronze Age is named lies on the boundary of the cadastral areas of Únětice, Roztoky and Žalov. Between 1870 and 1882, physician Čeněk Rýzner discovered and examined an Early Bronze Age burial ground in Únětice; in 1879, he examined it and found that it consisted of four groups of graves.

Among the prominent buildings is the cemetery chapel of Saint Joseph. It has a pentagonal ground plan on the outside and a decagonal one inside, and is an immovable cultural monument. West of the centre stands the Baroque Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1716. In front of it is a column with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1699. East of the church, in the historic centre of the village, stands the Tereziánský špejchar, a granary dating from 1752.

Nature and Trails

A nature trail runs through the Roztocký háj – Tiché údolí and Údolí Únětického potoka nature reserves. Several hiking and cycling trails also run through the area and can be accessed from Únětice. Further hiking and cycling trails lead from Únětice past Dolní rybník below Holý vrch and through Tiché údolí along the Únětický potok stream to Roztoky.

In the nearby Holý vrch area, the so-called Alšova vyhlídka is located on the upper part of the south-western slope. Climbing practice areas are located there above the Strážce trail. The “Únětická příroda v mapě” project records biodiversity-rich sites in the cadastral area of Únětice and involves the public in nature observation and the collection of biodiversity data.

Brewing Culture

Beer brewing resumed in 2011 in the architecturally valuable brewery building. Únětický pivovar offers a brewery taproom with a cosy garden and beer served directly from the tank.

The route follows Metro Line A to Dejvická, then Bus Line 355 to the Únětice, Na parcelách stop, followed by a short walk.
