Kostelec U Křížků: Hotels and Accommodation

Kostelec u Křížků has a history of settlement dating back to the beginning of the first millennium. A salt route connecting the Mediterranean with the Baltic ran through the town.

Culture

The Romanesque Rotunda of Saint Martin was built at the beginning of the 12th century and contains valuable frescoes. The local church also bears witness to a long history: it is already mentioned as a parish church in 1350.

In the northwestern part of Kostelec u Křížků lies the Jewish cemetery, which is considered an important monument and covers 2,510 m². It served the Jewish communities in Michle and Kunratice. The cemetery contains around 100 old gravestones; the oldest legible gravestone dates from 1724.

Kalifáč is considered the oldest district of the municipality. In the early Middle Ages, it was a warming shelter for pilgrims; the area is located around the cultural center and a restaurant.

Nature

The Březka game preserve extends over several hectares in the cadastral area of Kostelec u Křížků. It is not open to the public, is currently managed by VÚLHM Jíloviště–Strnady, and is home to breeding herds of mouflon and fallow deer.

In the southern part of the municipality lies Kostelecký rybník, which is currently used as a fish-farming pond. The autumn fish harvest there is a major attraction, especially for children.

Getting There

By road, the journey follows the D1 motorway and the exit near Velké Popovice, continuing via Štiřín. In Želivec, cross the old Benešov road; Kostelec u Křížků is another 2 km away.
