Libenice: Hotels and Accommodations

The protected ensemble of the Toleration Prayer House in Libenice includes the Toleration Prayer House, the rectory at No. 34, a surrounding wall, and the associated plots of land. The Toleration Prayer House is one of the last surviving architectural monuments of its kind in the Czech Republic and preserves historic furnishings.

Culture and History

The Libenice fortress was first mentioned in 1437. The originally probably small Gothic fortress was rebuilt and expanded from 1574 by Jan Libenický z Vrchovišť; this created a Renaissance building that retained its fortifications. The surviving fortress is integrated into House No. 1 and is not open to the public.

The former evangelical school began teaching in 1863 and was used as a school until 1965. Today, it is privately used for residential purposes and is not accessible to visitors.

Archaeology

The archaeological complex in Libenice contains findings from a period ranging from the Neolithic to the Migration Period. The archaeological site comprises an area measuring 80 by 20 meters, surrounded by a ditch 2 meters wide and 1 meter deep, as well as a lower inner earthwork rampart. The site is located on the northeastern edge of the village, near the turnoff from the Kolín–Čáslav road. The grave of a woman approximately 50 years old was discovered there, containing rich grave goods made of bronze, silver, glass, and amber.

Places in the Village

A copy of a stone stele, or menhir, stands in the village square. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands on the southern edge of Libenice on the road to Grunta. It is probably a niche chapel dating from the late 18th century and contains a painted image of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The evangelical cemetery of Libenice lies on the northwestern edge of the village, behind the Toleration Prayer House. It was established in 1827.

Landscape and Surroundings

Kaňk Hill and Diviška Hill [Konárovice] are located in the immediate surroundings of Libenice. The Hořánck Mountain, Polepský vrch Hill [Kolín], and Zámek Kačina Castle are also located in the area around Libenice.

The Libenický Oak is protected as a landscape-defining tree because of its age, biological significance, and aesthetic value.
