Oseček: Hotels and accommodations

Oseček lies on both banks of the Elbe. The holiday settlement in Oseček developed from a forest restaurant and a ferryman’s house dating from the early 20th century.

Nature

The Libický luh Nature Reserve lies on the opposite bank of the Elbe from Oseček. It protects floodplain forests, meadows, wetlands, and habitats of rare plant and animal species, including the Polabský marsh orchid (Epipactis albensis), the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita), and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus).

At Písečný přesyp u Osečka, communities of partially stabilized drifting sands with psammophilous plant, fungal, and invertebrate species occur.

History and townscape

Oseček was first mentioned in 1226 in connection with the Convent of St. George at Prague Castle.

The central village square of Oseček is considered the historic core of the settlement. The historic core includes the spatial and architectural arrangement of the original agricultural farmsteads, which is to be preserved.

On the southern side of the village square stands the late Classicist House No. 7, with a preserved façade articulated by pilaster strips. House No. 38 on the road to Poděbrady has a preserved gable field and a segmental-arched gateway. House No. 3 is one of Oseček’s preserved eclectic houses.

By the water and on a bicycle

Paddleboards are rented on site at the Oseček ferry landing without a reservation.

The cycling route from Kolín to Poděbrady runs as far as the Oseček ferry and turns right there. The Oseček–Velký Osek ferry connects the municipalities of Oseček and Velký Osek.
