Pikovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Pikovice on the Sázava combines striking rock formations, protected nature and named trails with a distinctive river and tramp history. The landscape extends from the deeply incised valley to individual characteristic natural monuments.

Nature

Medník is a protected regional biocentre and has been a National Nature Monument since 1933. At the same time, Medník is considered the only site in the Czech Republic where the snowdrop anemone “Kandík psí zub” is found.

One of the striking rock formations is Pikovická jehla. This highly visible, tower-shaped rock with a cross at its summit lies on the right bank of the Sázava below the railway line. Its valley-facing wall is 45 m high; the rock is complemented by a short upper north wall.

The deeply incised Sázava valley near Pikovice is predominantly covered with spruce forests. Fir, oak and scree forests are also found in places.

Trails and Water

The Posázavská Trail, marked 0001, follows the Sázava from Pikovice to Kamenný Přívoz. The route is 11 km long and classified as moderately difficult.

Another section is listed as the Týnec nad Sázavou–Pikovice route, with a length of 16.5 km and a difficulty rating of “ZW–WWII”.

Culture and Local History

The section of the Sázava between Pikovice and Žampach is known as the “Zlatý kaňon”. The name was coined by the tramp and writer Bob Hurikán, inspired by the beauty of the landscape.

At the beginning of the Posázavská Trail is the memorial “Dvě pamětní desky v Pikovicích”. Two memorial plaques are set into the rock there along the red-marked trail.

Every September, a country festival is held at the riverside campsite in Pikovice, commemorating the area’s rich tramp history.
