Sadská: Hotels and accommodations
In Sadská, the city’s history, a fossil-rich site, and the waters around Jezero stand side by side. This townscape is complemented by historic buildings and a circular route through the city. The Old Elbe lies in the immediate vicinity of Jezero; the Kersko–Bory forests are located in the wider regional surroundings of Sadská.
Culture
The present appearance of the originally Gothic Church of St. Apollinaris in Sadská was created through a Baroque-Gothic reconstruction in 1737–1739. The Baroque bell tower Zvonice u náměstí was built in 1691 as the original clock tower. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was originally built at a healing spring in 1714–1721; its present appearance is Baroque, and it is listed as a cultural monument. Also listed as a cultural monument is the Pomník O. G. Paroubka, a tomb created in 1910 by Jan Štursa in the Art Nouveau style.
The Městské muzeum Sadská presents an exhibition on the history of the city, prepared by the Polabské muzeum in Poděbrady. The exhibition ranges from archaeological excavations to the present day. Since 2005, the Klicperovy divadelní dny in Sadská have held the status of a regional theatre showcase; the event was revived in 1999. The Hasičská expozice in Sadská commemorates the deeds of Czech firefighters who gave their lives for the freedom of the people and the preservation of the idea “Bližnímu ku po moci”.
Trails and landscape
The educational trail “Po stopách našich předků” leads through Sadská and comprises 20 stone markers at historic or natural points. It forms a circular route, starts at Palackého Square, and can be explored on foot or by bicycle; a map is available.
Skála in the western part of the Sadská mesa is registered as a significant landscape feature and has ecological, landscape, and geomorphological significance. In Sadská, Skála is also a significant fossil site from the Middle Turonian, with a very rich occurrence of fossilized marine animals.
Water and nature
Jezero was created by sand extraction, which began in 1972 and ended in 1992. Surrounded by pine forests, Jezero offers clean water and opportunities for swimming. The so-called Old Elbe, a former channel of the Elbe, lies in the immediate vicinity of Jezero and is registered and protected as a significant landscape feature; it contains wetland communities as well as rare protected animal and plant species.
The Kersko–Bory forests lie in the wider regional surroundings of Sadská and have been protected as the Přírodní park Kersko–Bory nature park since 2010.
Connections
Sadská has good bus and train connections to Prague, Nymburk, and Kolín.
