Sazená: Hotels and accommodations

Sazená can be explored through several specific sites and activities: the château, the protected water mill complex, and the four-arched stone Baroque bridge are among the historic buildings; at Sazená airfield, the “Pilotem na zkoušku” experience and sightseeing flights are available.

Culture

Sazená Château was built around 1606 and later rebuilt several times. The entrance and a balcony with stone baluster posts have survived from the château’s Baroque appearance.

The protected water mill complex in Sazená consists of the mill, a barn, and the walled grounds with a gate. The mill is a longitudinally oriented building with a mansard roof and richly articulated façades.

In the town centre, the four-arched stone Baroque bridge crosses the Červený Stream, also known as the Bakovský Stream. The bridge features casts of the sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk and the Crucifixion group; the originals are located in the vestibule of the museum in Velvary.

The Sazená Fortress Museum includes an atypical two-embrasure fortification structure, LO vz. 37 (A-1/24a/Z1), which was built onto a public weighbridge. The fortification structure of the Sazená Fortress Museum and its surroundings have been restored to their original appearance from the end of September 1938.

Experiences

The “Pilotem na zkoušku” experience at Sazená airfield allows participants, under the guidance of a flight instructor, to try piloting an aircraft or helicopter themselves; it includes a pre-flight briefing and the flight.

Sightseeing flights by aircraft are offered at Sazená airfield. Their route passes over Mělník Château, Kokořín Castle, and Liběchov Château, and ends back in Sazená.

The traditional Aerotour navigation competition will take place on 19 September 2026 at Sazená airfield.

Sazená airfield can be reached from the D8 motorway via exit 18 and via Nová Ves on Road 608. The fortification structure is located in the centre of Sazená, northeast of Velvary.
