Velká Dobrá: Hotels and accommodations

Velká Dobrá is home to one of the few extensively preserved burial mound fields in Central Bohemia. The Mohylové pohřebiště Velká Dobrá is located on an inconspicuous eastern slope, where there were once about 60 burial mounds. Most have been destroyed in the fields, while some have been preserved in the forest.

Landscape and local history

Velká Dobrá lies in a gently undulating landscape. The built-up area ranges from 395 m above sea level at the western edge to 430 m at the eastern edge. Velká Dobrá and Malá Dobrá were merged in 1935.

Culture and history

The Velká Dobrá fortress was built toward the end of the 15th century and was later converted into a granary. The Kaple Nalezení svatého Kříže was built in 1765; in 1816 it was demolished and rebuilt in its present form, and it was consecrated in 1817.

The Kaple Nalezení svatého Kříže is a simple, moderately designed chapel from the first half of the 19th century. It has the floor plan of a single-nave church and a rectangular-ended chancel. Mass is celebrated in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of every month.

The Socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého was restored in 1969–1970 and placed next to the Kaple Nalezení svatého Kříže above the pond.

Orientation at the burial mound field

The southeastern access point to the Mohylník Velká Dobrá is located at N 50°06'58.30", E 14°04'17.10". Another navigation point is located at Mound No. 23, beside the monument, at N 50°07'04.29", E 14°04'06.90".

Cycling and sports

The “Kožová hora – Malé Kyšice” cycle path runs through Velká Dobrá and connects the village with Pletený Újezd, Braškov, Kyšice, Horní Bezděkov, Unhošť and Malé Kyšice. Information boards, as well as tables and benches for resting, are located along the cycle path.

The Sportovní areál Velká Dobrá offers a clay tennis court and a multi-purpose court for rent.
