Vykáň is located in the open landscape of the Polabská nížina, which is characterized by extensive arable land. The village originated at a historic crossroads of trade routes between Český Brod, Čelákovice and Brandýs nad Labem.

Culture and Local History

The Church of St. Havel in Vykáň is a single-nave Baroque building dating from 1733–1734, created by rebuilding an older Gothic church. The Church of St. Havel complex, including the mortuary, bell tower and surrounding wall, has been listed in the Czech Central List of Immovable Cultural Monuments since 1958.

The bell tower of Vykáň is a Baroque, single-storey prismatic building dating from 1769. It contains two bells from 1947 and 1948; the bells are rung there regularly every Sunday at noon. The statue of Saint Donatus is also listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Czech Central List of Monuments under number 35765/2–1971.

Among the oldest surviving architectural elements in Vykáň is the gate of Farm No. 29. It is a particularly valuable relic of pre-White Mountain rural architecture. Archaeological finds provide evidence of human presence in the Vykáň area from the Late Stone Age through the Celtic period.

The Vykáň municipal library is located in the municipal office building and is open every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The hills (Ny Vyhlídce) [Český Brod-Štolmíř], (Na Spravedlnosti) [Český Brod], Dolánka [Tismice] and (Pastviště) [Hořany u Poříčan] are located in the vicinity of Vykáň.

The Práče fortress is located in the wider regional surroundings of Vykáň. Also located there are The Golz-Kinsky Palace as a palace, Palác Kinských as a palace and Galerie Rudolfinum as a museum.
