Zapy: Hotels and accommodation

In Zápy stands the present-day Church of St James the Greater (Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího), which was completely rebuilt in 1750 according to plans by Kilian Ignác Dientzenhofer in an ornate Baroque style. Its high altar features Filip Leutner’s painting “The Beheading of Saint James” from 1769.

Culture

The Baroque pulpit features reliefs depicting episodes from the life of Saint James the Greater, as well as the journey of his relics from Palestine to Santiago de Compostela. The church complex is a protected cultural monument. The protected elements include the church, the surrounding wall, the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, the staircase, and the enclosed plots of the site.

The church complex includes a massive two-storey stone bell tower from the 16th century, built in a Gothic-Renaissance style. Two of the original three bells have survived: the large bell of the Virgin Mary and the smaller Evangelist bell. In one corner of the cemetery stands a Baroque mortuary chapel with an ossuary, built around the middle of the 18th century; the cemetery also contains valuable gravestones from the 18th century and the mid-19th century.

The area around the Church of St James the Greater (Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího) in Zápy is a significant archaeological site classified as ÚAN I. The finds and evidence range from the agricultural prehistory and the Knovíz culture through the Middle Ages and into the modern era.

History

The history of Zápy goes back more than 950 years. The town developed from four formerly separate settlements: Zápy, Zípce, Ostrov and Stránka.

Leisure

At the Teletník Arena, visitors can use a garden area, a snack stand, a grandstand, a pergola and a children’s playground. Even outside match times, they can sit there and enjoy refreshments. The facilities also include a beach volleyball court and another multi-purpose artificial-turf field for nohejbal, volleyball and floorball.

On 23 May 2025, the Church of St James the Elder (Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího) in Zápy was open to visitors from 5 to 9 p.m. as part of the traditional Noc kostelů event. Visitors could also traditionally view the bell tower and the mortuary chapel.

Connections

The 2.9 km Zeleneč–Lázně Toušeň cycle-path project, located in the cadastral areas of Zápy and Lázně Toušeň, was intended to connect the residents of Lázně Toušeň, Zápy and Zeleneč with Prague.
