The Czech puppeteer Matěj Kopecký was born on 24 February 1775 in an inn with a post station in Lhota pod Libčany.

History and Culture

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1900 and is also used for various cultural events, including concerts. Lhota pod Libčany was founded around 1375 by the Opatovický Monastery as a logging settlement. In 1580, Jiří Škornice Balbín had the layout of a new village surveyed here, extending 800 × 80 metres in an east–west direction.

The local history of crafts is also connected with a specific technical artefact: In 1827, the blacksmith Václav Novotný and his brother-in-law, the blacksmith Veverka from Rybitví, made a ruchadlo in Lhota pod Libčany. This device was used to plough for the first time behind the smithy at House No. 4.

Events and Community Life

Every summer, Lhota pod Libčany hosts a small-animal exhibition. Visitors can see dozens of animals on display, assessed and awarded prizes. Another popular annual cultural event held by the municipality is Children’s Day.

The cultural programme includes the family event “Let’s Welcome Autumn, or a Family Kite Festival”, as well as a witch-burning event at the Hubenice pond with an accompanying programme. In 2004, a multi-purpose sports field with artificial turf and lighting was also completed in Lhota pod Libčany.

Local Life and Cuisine

Rakytník Cvrček s.r.o. is a family business based in Lhota pod Libčany that processes sea buckthorn according to its own recipes. The company’s shop offers homemade ice cream, and visitors are invited to taste it.
