Lovčice: Hotels and accommodation

Lovčice combines natural areas, local history, and practical points of reference.

Nature

The Žehuňsko Natura 2000 site covers 8.1196 hectares in the cadastral area of Lovčice u Nového Bydžova. It protects semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia, habitat type 6210), alkaline fens (habitat type 7230), and the European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus).

The Žehuňský rybník–Obora Kněžičky bird area is also part of this natural landscape. It protects populations of the little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) and the spotted crake (Porzana porzana), as well as their habitats. It is significant as a breeding area for 131 bird species; this figure refers to the period from 1996 to 2002.

Kněžičky is a geotourist attraction with fossil-bearing Cretaceous rocks and so-called white slopes. The Kněžičky locality can be reached by car without access restrictions; access is possible to within 250 meters.

Culture and orientation

The Church of Saint Bartholomew is located in Lovčice u Nového Bydžova. There is also a belfry or bell tower, as well as an enclosing wall.

In the center of Velká náves in Lovčice stand the sculpture “Ježíš na kříži” and the sculpture “Socha Panna Maria s jezulátkem”. A statue of the Virgin Mary is located in the pedestal of the “Ježíš na kříži” sculpture.

The grave of Soviet Red Army soldier Akan Julimetou, who was born in 1910 and fell in battle on May 22, 1945, is located in the local cemetery. The municipal library in Lovčice offers children and adults a selection of more than 1,600 volumes.

A fortress once stood on the elevation known as “Na Pekelci”.

Lovčice obec station is located on the single-track railway line Chlumec nad Cidlinou–Městec Králové–Křinec and is an intermediate stop on a straight section of the line. It is approximately 300 meters from the notional center of Lovčice.
