Čistěves: Hotels and accommodations

Čistěves lies in a varied, hilly landscape approximately 12 km northwest of Hradec Králové in the direction of Jičín. The village combines this forested and largely undeveloped surroundings with numerous memorials on its outskirts, in the centre and in the Svíb forest area.

Landscape and nature

The Šust fishpond, used for fish farming, lies in the western part of the undeveloped area; it forms the local biocentre LBC 1. Part of the Svíb forest is designated as the regionally significant biocentre RBC 983 Svíb.

History and monuments

At the edge of the Svíb forest stands the monument to the 8th Austrian Battalion of Field Jägers, commemorating the 1866 Battle of Hradec Králové. It was made according to a design by Vienna professor Viktor Tilgner and depicts a larger-than-life Austrian field jäger of the 8th Battalion, carved from Istrian limestone.

In the centre of the Svíb forest is the Alley of the Dead, where thousands of soldiers from both opposing sides fell. There are also more than 120 crosses in the Svíb area.

The Prussian IR 27 Monument stands at its original location. It is a pylon topped with an artillery cross and bears Czech and German inscriptions.

Educational trail and event

The Svíb Forest Educational Trail begins in Čistěves. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete.

In 2024, Rozsvícený Svíb was held for the 18th time. Its programme traditionally included a field mass and a commemorative ceremony at Myslivec in 2024.

Transport connections

A bus stop is located in the centre of Čistěves at the junction of two Class III roads. The nearest railway stop is in the neighbouring municipality of Sadová, 3 km northwest of Čistěves, on line 041.
