Kozojedy: Hotels and Accommodation

At the southwestern edge of Kozojedy’s built-up area, near the brickworks, lies the Kozojedy archaeological site, including the fortress and the village centre.

Culture and History

The fortress in Kozojedy was first mentioned in 1375, burned down by the Hussites in 1423, and has been preserved south of the church through recognisable traces in the terrain. The Church of Saint Wenceslas is a distinctly Gothic-style wooden building; its wooden bell tower dates from 1689. The church is normally not open to the public.

A traditional exhibition of paper nativity scenes is held in the former school in Kozojedy near Žlunice. The paper nativity scene exhibition comprises more than 350 exhibits, including nativity scenes from Austria, Germany and Italy, and offers a personal explanation of the history of nativity scenes as well as further information.

In the wider region around Kozojedy lies the early medieval and prehistoric Gradiště Češovské valy. Its preserved ramparts are the highest in Bohemia; the hillfort was settled and used from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages. The fortification of Češovské valy extends for more than 2 km and has five entrances.

Nature

Žlunické polesí is a natural monument established to preserve a forest complex with protected and endangered plant species.

Educational Trail and Events

The Češov–Vysoké Veselí educational trail passes through Kozojedy. It is an 18 km circular route with branches that starts and ends at Mírové náměstí in Vysoké Veselí and has twelve stations with information boards. The educational trail is suitable for year-round visits. The Stezka Češov Veselí association maintains and enhances it.

The Putování po stezce Češov–Vysoké Veselí takes place every year on the third Saturday in July; Kozojedy is one of the checkpoints. In the 2026 edition, the routes range from 5 to 23 km. Cycling is recommended; walking and horse riding, among other options, are also permitted.
