The area around Ohaveč was already inhabited in the 6th to 5th millennium BC and belonged to the settlement area of the nearby Prachov Rocks. From the village square, there is a view of the Veliš Ridge and down towards the Ostruženské Ponds.
History
The medieval village of Ohaveč is first mentioned in 1327. Before 1487, Ohaveč was incorporated into the then-expanding Veliš estate of the Trčka of Lípa family. In 1622, under Albrecht von Wallenstein, Ohaveč became part of the Duchy of Friedland.
Archaeological investigations in the area around Ohaveč uncovered at least 90 structures, including huts and pits, as well as numerous stone tools and pottery shards.
Village and Location
When travelling from Sobotka to Jičín, the road passes through Ohaveč; the charming village square lies a few dozen metres to the south.
Nature
The Ohaveč lime tree is designated as a protected memorial tree. It was first placed under protection on 21 May 2008.
The Ostruženské Ponds nature monument lies in the cadastral areas of Březina, Ohaveč and Ostružno. The protected area includes the Ostruženský, Turecká and Čeperka ponds, with reed beds and adjacent wet meadows. It is one of the most important ornithological areas in the Hradec Králové Region.
