Culture and history
Construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Nové Město nad Metují was completed in 1519. Most of its furnishings date from the 17th century; the organ was made in 1656 by Jiří Weindt from Křešov.
The northern side of Husovo náměstí was reconstructed between 1951 and 1954 in Renaissance forms from the 1530s, with characteristic “swallowtail” gables. During the reconstruction of Husovo náměstí in 2009, the remains of a water reservoir were uncovered near the Holy Trinity monument.
Nové Město nad Metují Castle offers two sightseeing tours: “Zámecké interiéry” and “Od půdy po sklep”. The Nové Město nad Metují Town Museum presents exhibitions on the history, crafts and nature of the region. Its collection also includes PRIM wristwatches, including the oldest, largest and smallest watches in the collection.
The Zázvorka Municipal Gallery presents changing exhibitions of painting, photography, woodcuts and sculpture throughout the year on two floors.
Nature and trails
The Obůrka Klopotov educational trail provides information about the natural and historical features of the Klopotov Valley. It includes information panels, interactive elements for children and basic visitor facilities.
The Městský vycházkový okruh town trail begins near the bus station and follows the green-and-white markings of the local circular trail. It leads through deciduous forest down into the Metuje Valley.
The deep valley of the Klopotovský and Bohdašínský streams connects Nové Město nad Metují and Slavoňov via a pleasant walking path. The Dvořáčkova vyhlídka viewpoint offers a view across the Metuje Valley of Nové Město nad Metují Castle.
The Bartoňova útulna in Peklo was created through the conversion of a mill into a tourist restaurant, designed by Dušan Jurkovič and completed in 1912.
