Nový Ples: Hotels and Accommodations
Landscape
Nový Ples is located in a flat hilly landscape within the Labe River basin. River terraces and floodplains shape the landscape at an elevation of approximately 250 to 280 m.
The landscape of Nový Ples includes recognized floodplains, wetlands, ponds, and forests as significant landscape features. The Novopleský potok stream rises above Nový Ples, drains the built-up area in a northwesterly and westerly direction, and flows into the Labe.
Outside Nový Ples, there are paved paths for pedestrians that provide access to the surrounding landscape. Cycle Route 4034 also runs along the northern edge of the area.
History
The historic settlement of Ples developed on the left bank of the Metuje, Labe, and Jasenský potok rivers. Its original center was located in the area of the former parish church of St. Giles and two fortresses.
Nový Ples was established together with Rasošky on clearings in the Rasoška Forest after residents of the old settlement of Ples lost their farms during the construction of Josefov Fortress. Approximately 48 farmers whose former farms, houses, and plots in Ples had been abolished received new building plots and fields there; the new settlements of Nový Ples and Rasošky were established there.
Culture
In the northern part of the Nový Ples area, the protected zone of the Josefov Heritage Conservation Reservation near Jaroměř extends into the area. Josefov Fortress was completed in 1787 and today offers guided tours of its underground structures.
A bell tower with a crucifix monument stands beside a road in Nový Ples. A military triangulation point is also located near the airport by Nový Ples; it is one of the three points of the Josefov baseline. This point and the other two were established in 1863 as part of the triangulation carried out from 1862 to 1898.
Event and Beer
Pivní Štreka is a team competition for teams of two or more held around Nový Ples, covering approximately 24.5 km. In this competition, each team carries a 10-liter beer keg, the contents of which must be consumed by the finish.
Bakovský Štrekoun is a lager brewed specifically for Pivní Štreka, created through cooperation between the organizing team and Bakovský pivovar.
