Tannwald: Hotels and Accommodation

Tannwald combines mountain views, historic viewpoints, and paths through the landscape. On Tanvaldský Špičák stands the 18-metre-high observation tower, a stone tower dating from 1909. From there, the panoramic view extends across the Jizera Mountains and the Czech and Polish parts of the Giant Mountains.
Nature and Trails
The Tanvaldský Špičák observation tower can be reached on foot via marked hiking trails from Tanvald, Dolní Smržovka, Albrechtice, or Jiřetín pod Bukovou. Also located on Tanvaldský Špičák is the Fanterova skála rock viewpoint, which was opened to visitors in 1889.
Several named trails lead through the area around Tannwald. The “Za jizerskohorským duchem Muhu” hike begins in Tanvald and leads via Terezínka and Černá Studnice. The “Kolem Tanvaldu” hike is a circular route from the stop in Tanvald via the Špičák saddle, Desná, Světlá, Šulíkova skála, and Svárov back to the stop in Tanvald.
Cycling and Railways
The Tanvaldský Špičák Bikepark has around 12 kilometres of single-track, unpaved off-road trails. They lead from the summit of the mountain to the cable car’s valley station.
A technical speciality is the Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov rack railway line. It has been in operation since 1902 and is considered the steepest railway in the Czech Republic.
Views and History
Terezínka is a brick-built viewpoint with steps on the slope of Muchov mountain. It is easily accessible from Tanvald via a red-marked hiking trail. In 1853, Johann Mayer had the 15-metre-high rock at Terezínka fitted with a brick-built viewing platform and a railing.
The “Kolem Terezínky” excursion leads to places offering views of Tanvald, the Jizera Mountains, and the Bohemian Paradise.
Culture
The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in the Šumburk district of Tanvald is a protected cultural monument. The foundation stone was laid in 1899, and the ceremonial consecration took place on 15 August 1901.
