Křižany: Hotels and Accommodation

Křižany combines an originally Gothic church with distinctive rock formations, a historic quarry and a signposted cycling route. The individual places and landscape features extend from Křižany itself into the wider surrounding region.

Culture and History

The originally Gothic Church of St Maximilian in Křižany dates from 1384. It is a single-nave church with a rectangular floor plan and a polygonally enclosed presbytery. A tower built in 1684 stands on the west side. The interior features late Baroque furnishings, including an altar, painted panels, a wooden gallery and a rural organ.

The history of the village also includes the Stará škola Křižany, which was declared a cultural monument in 1996. It is located on the yellow-marked hiking trail between Pruský kříž and Malý Ještěd. Cultural events have occasionally been held at Stará škola Křižany since 2021.

Rocks and Quarry

The Krkavčí skály sandstone massif has a rock viewing platform called Vyhlídková, with views of the Ještědský hřbet. The Krkavčí skály rocks are used by climbers.

Above Křižany, the Solvay Quarry is open to the public. The three-level Solvay Quarry on the Ještědský hřeben was still in operation in the 1920s.

Cycling Route

The Ploučnice cycling route is signposted as Route No. 15 and is almost 100 kilometres long. The first stage begins at Křižany railway station.

Surrounding Landscape

The Rozsocha mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of Křižany. The Ještěd mountain, Pískový vrch mountain, the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity and Sedlecký Špičák mountain are also located around Křižany. The Valdštejn church is located in the wider regional surroundings of Křižany.
