Nová Ves Nad Popelkou: Hotels and Accommodation

Nová Ves nad Popelkou lies in a broad valley running from west to east, through the middle of which the Popelka stream flows. The panorama of the village features the ruins of Kumburk Castle.

Landscape and Village Character

At 547 m, Císařova hůra is the highest elevation on the northern side; its name derives from the owner of Farm No. 24 (1641–1860). These two locations offer beautiful views to the west, north, and east. At the entrance to Nová Ves nad Popelkou, picturesque log houses welcome visitors.

Church and Architectural History

The Baroque complex of the Church of Saint Procopius includes a chapel belonging to the old cemetery, which retains its surrounding wall and gate. The Church of Saint Procopius was rebuilt in its present form in 1765–1769. The local parish house was built in 1787–1788, after a plan for it had been drawn up in 1786.

The oldest bell in the Church of Saint Procopius was probably cast in the 14th century. The preserved masonry of the ground floor of a watermill is considered the last evidence of one of the most interesting structures of folk architecture in the Podkrkonoší region.

Railway, Cycle Path, and Village Details

The Stará Paka–Mladá Boleslav railway line runs along the southern side of the village. Cycle Path No. 4277 passes through Nová Ves nad Popelkou. At the upper end of Nová Ves nad Popelkou, by the bridge over the Popelka, stands a sandstone statue of a water sprite with gilded details.

Local Culture

Every year, the Tyl theatre group from Lomnice nad Popelkou performs in Nová Ves nad Popelkou.
